Answers to common questions. If yours isn't here, write to us.
Why does a score differ from what the pack says?
Packs make claims; we measure against published thresholds. A pack can say "a source of fibre" and still be above the UK FSA threshold for sugars. Tap any reason in the app to see the measured value, the threshold and the source.
Is reading an ingredient label really free?
Yes. When we don't have a product, photograph its ingredient list and VeraLens scores it at no cost. It needs a free account (Sign in with Apple) so we can keep usage fair. The photo is read on your iPhone and only the text is sent.
What does "Not in our database yet" mean?
We don't have that barcode in our copy of Open Food Facts and Open Beauty Facts yet. You can photograph the ingredient list to get a score straight away. Our copy is updated regularly.
How are alternatives chosen?
Alternatives are part of VeraLens Pro. We look at products in the same category, keep those with a higher score that don't conflict with your preferences, and show the highest scores first. Brands can't pay to appear.
How do I cancel VeraLens Pro?
Open Settings on your iPhone, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and choose VeraLens. From VeraLens you can go there with Settings → Cancel subscription. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid the next charge. Deleting the app doesn't cancel the subscription.
How do I delete my account and data?
In VeraLens, open Settings and choose Delete account. This deletes your account and its link to Apple, your reports, your photos and your usage counts from our server, and your scan history and preferences from your devices. Everything else we could hold is listed in the privacy policy.
